Angola is probably the most united and one of the most successful countries in Africa. No tribal or religious wars, no separatist movements. At least up to a point as the result of the way we ruled it.
Well, Angola stil had that civil war between UNITA and MPLA that lasted for many years after Portugal abruptly dumped independence on the former colony without first of all brokering a peace deal and power sharing agreement between the two. Each party represented a different coalition of tribes - Jonas Savimbi's UNITA that of Angola's southern tribes.
Yes, we made some serious mistakes in 1974-1975, but the civil war was never a tribal war, although UNITA was mostly based in Southern Angola and MPLA had its power base in Luanda. I was in Angola soon after the civil war had ended and I was surprised to see that in the Benguela province the Governor was from MPLA and the military commander a former UNITA general. And today the Angolan people have a sense of identity which completely ignores tribal divisions. No country in Africa, with the possible exception of Botswana, which is mostly based on one tribe - the Tswanas - can say the same.

We have to ask Angolans if they are happy of Portuguese colonial rule.

Had you colonised Australia, the abos might have become slaves.

The British did not enslave the Aborigines because they could rely on the forced labour of criminals deported from Britain... :D
If Portuguese colonial rule was so enlightened, the Angolans would not have fought a war of independence.
They did and now have a very friendly relationship with Portugal. For instance, our Minister of Justice is a black Angolan woman whose family fought for independence...
In other words, you were nasty to Angolans when you ruled them. But you are nice to them after you no longer rule them.

We were always nice to them, but they insisted on being sovereign...

The former Portuguese colony of Mozambique was so violent after independence that it put an AK47 on its flag.

Mozambique chose to join the Commonwealth of Nations, an association of former UK colonies, because of the support it received from them.

Mozambique is also a member of the CPLP - Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries - which has just signed a treaty allowing for full freedom of travelling among the nine countries for their citizens. Eventually to develop into freedom of work and settlement...Something the Commonwealth never dared doing for its members...

To make trade easier between Mozambique and the surrounding former British colonies.

Really? I didn’t know that. Sertorio lives in a dream world where up is down. Leave him to his dreams.

Commonwealth of Nations is just a cultural club. It is not a trade group. The main thing it does seems to be to hold the Commonwealth games.
