Bob Hawke, giant of Australian politics, dies.

:( In fond memory of what was probably the best Prime Minister of Australia we have had in my lifetime.

With my usually jaundiced attitude towards politicians it takes one of exceptional merit to move me to post a tribute as warm as this one - but Hawke stands out in my mind as a true statesman.

May his soul rest in peace. :)

Sad that in this era he likely could not get elected.

Thanks Milo!

You may even be right. It is election day out here today. They are forecasting the narrowest of narrow victories by Hawke's old party, the Australian Labor party. Given what a hopeless, disorganized rabble the current incumbent (likely, outgoing) government has been in performance Labor should be poised for a landslide win. Unfortunately the Labor leaser Bill Shorten is a very "underwhealming" presence devoid of charisma - in stark contrast to Hawke.
