Re: Hamas, Fatah reconcile
This is not the first time such an agreement was floated. In all previous cases it fell apart within weeks. The only way that Fatah will get a foothold in Gaza is if Hamas plays dead and the converse for Hamas in the PA areas. Actually given that Abbas is in his 12th year of his 4 year term and that he is not holding elections because he knows that Hamas will win easily and that will disconnect him from the money flowing in.SteveFoerster wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 8:16 amGive that one a few weeks and see how the Kumbayah is going.
I'd rather be diving or flying alas for now I am on terra firma.

It may be a good idea if Hamas takes over the west bank. Then Israel will have an excuse to bash the Palestinians.dagbay wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 5:36 pmThis is not the first time such an agreement was floated. I can't speak for Israel but from what I know of the history of the state - it will not rush to bash anyone unless it is an existential threat. If it comes to that they are toast. There is something to be said for that outcome but it is not palletable to most Israelis, I believe. In any case don't hold your breath both Hamas and Fatah want the whole of Israel for themselves alone.cassowary wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2017 12:30 amIt may be a good idea if Hamas takes over the west bank. Seriously, think about what an appalling, anti-human statement that actually is.cassowary wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2017 12:30 amIt may be a good idea if Hamas takes over the west bank. I am a realist. The PLA pretends to want peace with Israel. HAMAS does not. It makes it clear they want to exterminate the Jews. Sometimes, these things must be settled the old fashion way.SteveFoerster wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2017 11:06 amSeriously, think about what an appalling, anti-human statement that actually is.cassowary wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2017 12:30 amIt may be a good idea if Hamas takes over the west bank. The reality is that it will take a massive defeat to change the minds of many Muslims.
I want to elaborate on realism in the Middle East. It is an unfortunate fact that the Palestinian leadership since the days of the Mandate are violently opposed to a Jewish state. It all began at the time of Amin al Husseini, the Mufti of Jerusalem and uncle of Yasser Arafat.

Soul-mate anti-Semites: Amin and Hitler
Impressed by Hitler's gas chambers, Amin requested and received help from Hitler to exterminate Jews in Tunisia, according to the book, "Reclaiming Israel's History," by David Brog.
Today, HAMAS has carried on the mantle of Amin al Husseini. It makes no bones on their plans for genocide, citing Islamic Scriptures as justification. Take a look at the HAMAS charter.
For these bunch of Muslims (not all are like that), they are in the same position as the Japanese of wWII. At that tiime, the Japanese believe that the Emperor is a god and the gods protect Japan. So they think defeat is impossible. Crashing their planes on American ships would turn them into gods. Mohammed Atta was not the first suicide pilot.
IT TOOK A RIVER OF BLOOD before the Japanese were convinced that they were on the wrong path. Defeat changed their mindset. Defeat opened their minds to new ideas. It will take the same for radical Muslims to change their minds. That is the reality.

That is the reality in the Mid East. You have a bunch of Muslims who follow a strict interpretation of Islam which does mot allow accomodation of modern sensibilities. Genocide of Jews is acceptable. One of the most ominous aspects of the Charter however, is this Hadith:
Moreover, if the links have been distant from each other and if obstacles, placed by those who are the lackeys of Zionism in the way of the fighters obstructed the continuation of the struggle, the Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to the realisation of Allah's promise, no matter how long that should take. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said:
"The Day of Judgement will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews." (related by al-Bukhari and Muslim).
