China develops rapid Coronavirus test that works in under 15 MINUTES

Scientists in China have reportedly developed an express test which can detect the 2019-nCoV novel coronavirus in under fifteen minutes, in a major breakthrough which will hopefully help stem the tide of infection.

Experts from a tech company based in Wuxi in eastern China's Jiangsu Province, working with the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, developed the rapid nucleic test kit in just ten days, according to the Xinhua news agency.

The test takes between eight and 15 minutes to produce a result and is currently being mass-manufactured at a rate of 4,000 kits per day, with the city government in Wuxi exploring efforts to boost production even further.

The first batch of kits has reportedly already been deployed to the frontlines at the epicentre of the outbreak, Wuhan, in Hubei province.

The death toll from the virus continues to rise, as does the rate of infection around the world. On Friday the UK confirmed its first cases of the illness, joining more than 15 other countries around the world with verified instances of the disease.

To date, some 213 have died as a result of coronavirus infection and a further 9,700 have contracted the disease.

15 minutes is a long time to have infected and non infected people wait together, but much better than mailing lab samples off to someplace else to be tested and waiting hours to days for the results

Coronavirus: Chinese health experts warn patients can get reinfected

No more square-dancing

Medical experts on Friday warned that patients who had recovered from the virus were still at risk of being infected again, and said people should avoid any mass gathering, even dancing in public parks and squares – a popular activity for exercise in China.

Zhan Qingyuan, head of infectious diseases at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, said in a press briefing on Friday that people who had already had the virus would have developed antibodies but should remain on alert so they did not get ill again.

“The antibodies may not remain for a long time, so there is still a risk that these recovered patients will be infected again,” Zhan said. “They should continue to keep themselves protected.”

Australian government is sending travellers from Hubeh province to Christmas Island for a mandatory 14 day period of quarantine isolation to see whether any of them show symptoms of Coronavirus.
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/29/coronav ... -days.html

Christmas Island is an Australian territory in the Indian Ocean, and until 2018 was home to a controversial detention center used to hold migrants who attempt to reach Australia illegally. In February last year, the current government announced plans to reopen the center.
(For those not in the know Christmas Island is far closer to Java, Indonesia than it is to the Australian mainland. But due to an accident of history it falls within our sovereignty.)

The detention centre is empty of illegal would-be immigrants now: testimony to the success of the Australian government in deterring illegal immigration by sea. But the centre infrastructure has been maintained in good working order making it suitable for a quarantine centre now.

You Can Now Go to Jail in China for Criticizing Beijing’s Coronavirus Response
The Chinese government is ramping up its propaganda, and cracking down on criticism, as the virus spreads.
by David Gilbert
Jan 30 2020, 8:30am

Chinese authorities are cracking down on negative media coverage and social media commentary about the coronavirus outbreak, threatening anyone who breaches their rules with up to seven years in jail.

On Wednesday the government authorities issued an order for an article that looked at the possible negative impact of the outbreak on China’s economy to be scrubbed from the internet.

The article, published by state-owned weekly news magazine Sanlian Life Week, considered what might happen to the Chinese economy if the World Health Organization declares the Wuhan coronavirus to be a “global health emergency.”

The alert, leaked to California-based monitoring group China Digital Times, is just the latest effort by Beijing to censor criticism of the outbreak.

Beijing is eager to avoid a repeat of what happened during its 2003 SARS crisis, when it was heavily criticized for its delayed reaction to the outbreak and its effort to hide its true scale.

Globally, its efforts seem to be working.

On Wednesday, the World Health Organization was effusive in its praise of the Chinese government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak, but inside the country, the government is working overtime to make sure any shortcomings in its response don’t come to light.

These efforts include arresting dozens of social media users who spread “false information without verification.” One of those arrested turned out to be a doctor on the front line of the fights to contain the virus who shared information about the unknown illness with a private WeChat group. The doctor, who was forced to sign a document saying he would abide by the law, has since been infected with the coronavirus and remains in a critical condition.

This week, police in the port city of Tianjin detained a man for 10 days for “maliciously publishing aggressive, insulting speech against medical personnel” after he criticized the response to the outbreak in a WeChat group he shared with his friends.

China’s huge online censorship system, known as the Great Firewall, is also censoring any information the government deems to be “rumor.”

Examples of this include posts by families of infected people seeking help, by people living in quarantined cities documenting their daily life, and by those criticizing the government’s handling of the crisis.

In a bid to make sure people don’t even try and spread such “rumors” on Chinese social media, the government announced this week that anyone who tries to "disrupt social order" by posting on social media information from sources other than state-run media, will face between three and seven years in jail.

Critics of the government’s efforts to stifle online discussion and sharing of information say these actions threaten basic human rights.

“The coronavirus outbreak requires a swift and comprehensive response that respects human rights,” Yaqiu Wang, a China researcher with Human Rights Watch, said in a statement. “Authorities should recognize that censorship only fuels public distrust, and instead encourage civil society engagement and media reporting on this public health crisis.”

In a bid to counteract any negative commentary about the government’s response to the outbreak, state-backed media outlets have been producing gushing reports about Beijing’s efforts to address the crisis.

These include numerous videos of the new hospital being built in Wuhan, all set to stirring background music.

These efforts also include sharing fake images of the new hospital.

The images, which actually show a modular apartment building more than 600 miles away in Qingdao, were posted by the verified Twitter accounts of the Global Times and the People’s Daily, both state-run publications, in an apparent bid to show the hospital construction as more advanced than it really was.

The image was also shared by the Twitter account of Lijian Zhao, the deputy director-general of the information department in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Did the Virus start in China's bio-weapons lab in Wuhan?

Did China’s Plan to Destroy the United States Backfire?
In his speech, Gen. Chi provides us with a key for understanding China’s development strategy. According to Chi, “Our economic development is all about preparing for the needs of war!” It’s not about improving the life of Chinese people in the short run. It’s not about building a consumer-oriented capitalist society. “Publicly, said Gen, Chi, “we still emphasize economic development as our center, but in reality, economic development has war as its center!”

The same can be said for China’s intense interest in the biological sciences.
So evil. But what do you expect from Socialists/Communists? After all, these are the people who killed 45 million Chinese during the Great Leap Forward and are now imprisoning millions of Uighurs in concentration camps.
Not long after delivering his speech, Gen. Chi stepped down as Defense Minister in 2003, the same year as the SARS (coronavirus) outbreak in China. This was also (coincidentally) the same year Beijing decided to build the Wuhan P4 virology lab. Given Gen. Chi’s speech, is the novel coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan an accident occasioned by weaponizing the virus at the city’s P4 microbiology lab?

Three data points are worth considering. First, in 2008 Taiwan’s top security official told lawmakers that “Taiwan had intelligence linking the SARS virus to research done in Chinese labs,” according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

There is a lot of suspicion going around about this. The CCP has done a lot of things like they are trying to hide something. It may just be their incompetence in dealing with coronavirus It might be more sinister.

Early missteps and state secrecy in China probably allowed the coronavirus to spread farther and faster

Senator Tom Cotton Shreds China's Official Virus Story, Warns Of "Super Laboratory" Proximity
https://www.zerohedge.com/health/senato ... -proximity

A United States senator is casting major doubt on the Chinese government’s official story on the 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak, instead hinting that a biosafety laboratory working with the deadliest pathogens in the world could be the true source.

Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas dismantled a claim from China’s communist regime Thursday that pinned the coronavirus outbreak on a market selling dead and live animals.

“China claimed — for almost two months — that coronavirus had originated in a Wuhan seafood market,” Cotton wrote on Twitter.

“That is not the case.”

In a video accompanying his post, Cotton explained that the Wuhan wet market (which Cotton incorrectly referred to as a seafood market) has been shown by experts to not be the source of the deadly contagion.

Cotton referenced a Lancet study which showed that many of the first cases of the novel coronavirus, including patient zero, had no connection to the wet market — devastatingly undermining China’s claim.

“As one epidemiologist said: ‘That virus went into the seafood market before it came out of the seafood market.’ We still don’t know where it originated,” Cotton said.

“I would note that Wuhan also has China’s only bio-safety level four super laboratory that works with the world’s most deadly pathogens to include, yes, coronavirus.”

Watch Cotton’s full comments below.

China claimed—for almost two months—that coronavirus had originated in a Wuhan seafood market. That is not the case. @TheLancet published a study demonstrating that of the original 40 cases, 14 of them had no contact with the seafood market, including Patient Zero. pic.twitter.com/PdgqgHjkGy
— Tom Cotton (@SenTomCotton) January 30, 2020

Cotton appears to be referring to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the country’s foremost virus research facility.

The Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory, which is part of the institute, is located only 20 miles from the Wuhan wet market, the “official” source of the outbreak according to China.

Snakes, bats and other animals were identified as possible originators for the coronavirus in early investigations.

The rapid spread of the virus, which makes previous contagions like SARS and swine flu look benign by comparison, seems to lend weight to the theory that the novel coronavirus is a tailored bioweapon.

Ten days ago, China reported less than 300 had the virus. The country’s latest update now numbers the infected at over 11,000.

An additional 15,000 in China are suspected of having the virus, but a reported lack of test kits prevents the government from giving an accurate number.

When the number of infected was still low, China instituted a wide-reaching quarantine, sealing over 40 million inside cities.

Now, the world appears to be sealing China in.

Russia, Nepal, Mongolia and North Korea have all closed their borders with China. Even more countries are refusing Chinese nationals, including an unprecedented announcement from the administration of President Donald Trump barring entry into America for foreign nationals who have traveled to China.

While the virus has been found in several countries around the world including America, all eyes are now on China as the outbreak there shows no signs of slowing.
