they spent a lot of money on the two World wars also; but they were necessary conflicts.SteveFoerster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 1:51 pmHear hear!Milo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 10:44 amOne of the great shames of our time is spending some $2 trillion on wars to keep the oil flowing, when a tiny fraction of that could get us working thorium molten salt reactors, which could defund most global terrorism and islamic extremism. Neither Afghanistan nor Iraq were necessary after the first eight weeks or so. Most of that money, obviously there’s a lot of scope for disagreement here, was spent to ensure “stability”. That’s code for ‘keep the oil flowing’.neverfail wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 3:38 pmthey spent a lot of money on the two World wars also; but they were necessary conflicts.SteveFoerster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 1:51 pmHear hear!Milo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 10:44 amOne of the great shames of our time is spending some $2 trillion on wars to keep the oil flowing, when a tiny fraction of that could get us working thorium molten salt reactors, which could defund most global terrorism and islamic extremism. America was criticized for leaving Afghanistan alone after the Soviets were defeated. People were saying that they should have build a modern society with an elected Parliament. But after they tried that, you are saying they should have been left alone. So America was right to leave them alone after the Soviets were defeated. Some people are just too backwards to modernise.Milo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 4:28 pmNeither Afghanistan nor Iraq were necessary after the first eight weeks or so. Invading Iraq was never necessary at all. Moreover, it was actively foolish to do so.Milo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 4:28 pmNeither Afghanistan nor Iraq were necessary after the first eight weeks or so. After the Soviets left the tribal warlords fought one another over the spoils. There is simply no foundations for a modern state there. Had the US intervened it would have found nothing there to work with.cassowary wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 7:03 pmAmerica was criticized for leaving Afghanistan alone after the Soviets were defeated. Intervention several years later did not change that.

At least America tried. This is testimony to their kind intentions. But they are too primitive for America to succeed.neverfail wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 10:33 pmAfter the Soviets left the tribal warlords fought one another over the spoils. So don’t make the mistake of accepting these bums into your country as refugees.
