Laos, Cambodia and now Thailand are just interested in one thing - the money and the business. Thailand is probably the worst at the moment, still buying weapons from China when it there isn't enough money to help its own people during the Covid-19 crisis, it actually charges them for the test! But then what would one expect from a military dictatorship.
"Laos' Debt Woes"

". . . substantial burden of debts linked to major Chinese-backed infrastructure projects."
It's difficult to decide - is Laos merely a vassal nation under China's thumb, or is it a de facto province of China? Gone, apparently, is the sense of hope I perceived among Lao people in my journeys there 1990's to early 2000's. The craven government there has capitulated to the mighty Yuan.
The linked article focuses on debt and increasing poverty. On occasion I have linked articles on the ongoing gross environmental destruction there. Also, we miss Adm's first-hand accounts re the trashing of Laos. Any chance for updates?

The thing is, China will not do very well by this collection of low hanging fruit, and it still has to be paid for, even if China take over all the indebted infrastructure it wants.Jim the Moron wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 3:14 pmhttps://www.newmandala.org/going-under- ... t-in-laos/ Going Uneer??

Laos has the resourses to supply its own power. Its the trashing of those resources that should be of concern.
