Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Post by Sertorio » Wed Jun 27, 2018 12:32 pm

America’s Democratic party is reeling from the shock of a 28-year-old newcomer ousting one of its stalwarts in the party’s New York primary on Tuesday.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old member of the Democratic Socialists of America, from the South Bronx, who volunteered for Bernie Sanders, used a grassroots campaign to beat Joe Crowley, a 10-term representative who many had expected to lead the Democrats in congress.

The result is a sign of the growing strength and appetite on the left to insert itself into federal politics and reject a Democratic establishment that has been criticised for its cosy relationship with major industries and reluctance to embrace leftwing policies on issues like healthcare and banking reform.

It would be good if America had a choice.

The Democratic party is dying from corruption. I Am surprised that Cortez was allowed to run as a democrat. Recently the Dems made that a requirement to stand for the party's POTUS nomination. As for change the US is going back to a two party system.

The Democratic Party has become Amreica's Socialist party and that is bad for the country. Its a change of the worse.

As always on this topic you are talking arrant bullshit cassowary. The trouble with the Democrats Party is that it has too much of a track record of hobnobbing with corporate big business instead of (as it should have been) better serving its working class constituency which it should have treated as its mission all along.

The consequence is that American voters have had to choose each election day between two parties both of whom have been dedicated to the service of big monied interests and both of whom have had some very grubby associations along the way. In my view that constitutes no choice at all.

If it takes a heavy dose of democratic socialism to change that for the better then I can only cheer "bring it on, pal!"

You are supposed to be a man who has had the benefit of a tertiary level of education, cassowary. Your persistent lack of discernment in this matter; apparent inability to think outside the box of Republican Party slander of a political opponent (bullshit for the suckers, ha ha!) makes me wonder whether you are as highly educated as you make out.

You are talking about the Clinton-Pelosi wing of the Democratic Party. They are in decline. The Bernie Sanders Socialist wing is gaining ascendancy as can be seen from the nomination of Cortez. She and Sanders call themselves Socialists.

It will result in poverty. Look at Venezuela, Greece.

Got me a theory. About 3 years ago some big-money right-wing types got together and plotted a takeover of government. The plan would be to figure out ways to fund the campaigns of selected far left-wing types, who would likely disrupt the campaigns of more moderate lefties. Enter Bernie. And with this young lady in the House, along with several other like-minded Members of Congress voicing their views daily, lots of folks would sour on the Democrats.
Just saying . . .

Leftists are not necessarily as stupid as the run of the mill rightist. And truly educated people in America are becoming more numerous. Eventually that will lead to a socially more sensitive government.
