I guess when Xi told Biden "Don't play with fire" it was just a bad translation. What he really said is "Don't play with fool"

Doc, I take up the title of this discussion without looking at the U Tube video.
As I see it the PRC government is making a bit of a fool of itself in its over the top reaction to Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. You know, the firing of missiles and so forth in what currently looks like a big fireworks display & etc?
As I see it Ms. Pelosi's "solidarity" visit to Taiwan had little to do with solidarity and everything to do with the political mileage to be gained back on her home turf in the US. This in preparation for the coming US mid-term elections in November. Her gesture might not be enough to stop the election of a predominantly Republican House of Reps but her recent Taiwan stunt might help minimise the swing against the Democrats; thus mitigating the damage to her party.
The amount of publicity generated by the current PRC reaction to Pelosi's visit must be greater than this veteran politician could have possibly prayed for.
(It also serves to highlite just what a touchy issue Taiwan in in PRC governing circles.)

As for Pelosi she also has the twin scandals of her husbands buying of Semiconductor stocks right before Pelosi allowed for a vote on the $52 billion chips act giving semiconductor companies the money. Plus her husband's DUI causing a major traffic accident and the case being rigging by a Pelosi friend prosecutor and the judge being replaced at the last minute by a Pelosi friendly judge. Which of course Pelosi's trip to Taiwan causing most to forget about these scandal's

Well, I don't know about any of this stuff Doc. As for the PRC government they likely do not care.Doc wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 5:19 pm

What impressed me is their overreaction to her visit. Over there they do not regard Taiwan as a state of seperate soverignty to the PRC but as a rebel fragment of their own country they are yet to fully deal with.
The military fireaworks display like the Chiinese citizens "beating themselves up" on video seem to be the PRc government's way of telling the Taiwanese "just because a big shot from the USA has paid you a visit do not get fancy ideas about your own importance".

The Chinese economy is collapsing. Similar to Argentina's before the Falklands war...neverfail wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 11:53 pmWell, I don't know about any of this stuff Doc. As for the PRC government they likely do not care.Doc wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 5:19 pm
