It certainly would be possible. Wouldn't Australia be able to live in peaceful harmony alongside an independent Tasmania? You would, but you are not prepared to do it. Neither is China, and only they can decide what to do.neverfail wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 3:04 pm(In answer to Sertorio)
Yes, but is the PRC right on this?
Could it be that the rulers of the PRC have permitted themselves to be misled by their country's history and today it might be possible to maintain two states of Chinese heritage alongside one another in peaceful harmony.
PLA discovers that there is no way to drive tanks to Taiwan.

Tasmania, even if it had the opportunity to do so, would be crazy to assume a seperate soverignty since as our poorest state it is a net beneficiary of subsidies from our federal government.
We have an independent New Zealand in our vicinity that snubbed the invitation to join the Australian federation in 1898. To my understanding their average per capita real incomes and general living standards are approximately two thirds those of mainland Australia's. Its like Tasmania on steroids.

The Taiwanese people have spoken They want no part of CCP rule. Now if was say China, ROC then maybe they might be interested. In any event you in no way have the right to decide for the people of Taiwan.Sertorio wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 4:39 pmIt certainly would be possible. I do not disagree with your above insight Doc. Alas though: it seems that the power balance has shifted (and is still shifting) in favour of the PRC and against the USA; so it is only a matter of time before the PRC will force the issue - and they will not care less about the preferences of the Taiwanese people in the matter. Does your country value Taiwan so much that it would wish to be embroiled in a thermonuclear showdown over the island?

The US cannot fight too close to the Chinese shore. Logistics is a problem. Not to mention Chinese shore based missiles. However, it can blockade China from the deep ocean. Stop China’s import of food and raw materials. These come mainly from US Allies - Canada and Australia and the US itself. The rest can be blockaded.neverfail wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 8:11 pmI do not disagree with your above insight Doc. If the United States and allies let their hackers off the chain every computer in China will be useless in hours.cassowary wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 9:46 pmThe US cannot fight too close to the Chinese shore.
