Apparently the Ukrainian forces are not just retaking towns but this could lead to them threatening Russian supply lines… to Russia’s eastern campaign!

Unfortunately, Ukraine is fighting a purely defensive war within its own bounds. No country can hope to win a defensive war like that. The two obvious outcomes are either defeat or stalemate. Ukraine lacks the weight of both manpower and war production to vanquish Russia.

Ukraine can win battles on merit all right but as long as Russia persists it will ultimately wear down Ukrainian opposition.

Putin is nothing if not determined to win - regardless of cost.

Ukraine ‘s war production is augmented by NATO. Here they have an advantage because NATO ‘s war production is far greater than Russia’s. Russia wants to conquer Ukraine, a far greater task than merely defending Ukraine. You need a three to one advantage in men and weaponry for an attacker to be sure of victory.

I am not denying any of that Cass, except that NATO is not currently geared up for war whereas Russia is: and Putin has not yet mobilized the full extent of his country's war making potential; such of the millions of reservists who have over recent years undergone basic military training and only need to be put back in uniform and armed to become soldiers.

No. NATO will not match him in resolve. But Ukraine will more than match Russian conscripts. The only thing for Nato to do is to keep Ukraine supplied.

I have no doubt about the gallantry of Ukraine's fighting men or the morale problem in Russian ranks. The trouble I foresee is that Ukraine will run out of fit men of fighting age before Russia will.

This is not the first time that Russia has threatened thermonuclear war - without naming who it would wage it against, Ukraine or the NATO block. Do you believe that they are in earnest?

Western "experts" say "Ukraine may win" without defining what winning actually means. By what benchmark standard can they judge when Ukraine has "won"? Will it be when Putin waves a white flag of surrender? Frankly I believe they might be talking out of their backsides.

Putin I believe will go to any length to avoid humiliation: even inaugurate World War 3 - and then we are all in trouble.

If Putin thinks using Nukes will keep him alive and in power he will use nukes. Given the performance and state of the Russian army the US may end up with more nuclear missiles by the end of that war than it started with.

Seriously I have the same objections to this war that I always did WW3 being one of them.

The real enemy is China. Everything the Democrats and government seem to want is bad for the US so maybe China has already taken over.
