Compassion? If they are oppressed let them fight.
"And if they have no grass to eat let them eat cake!"
Sertorio is heartless. He has no compassion for the oppressed on the world. I suspect he may even take pleasure in the sufferings of others. Maybe he is a sadist.
Oppressed people, unless they are oppressed by a foreign power, must free themselves by their own efforts. If they can't do it it's because they don't deserve to be free.
If you wanted to confirm Cass's description of you being heartless and devoid of compassion for the oppressed, you could scarcely do better. :(
People who are freed by the efforts of a foreign power only change their master...Can you imagine the fate of Venezuela, Cuba or Iran if they were "freed" by the US?...In no time their natural resources would be stolen by American multinationals... Compassion indeed!... :(
I wasn't talking about U.S. military interventionism. I was talking about your blanket condemnation of whole nations of people as undeserving of freedom.

Funny. The US won the Cold War and freed Eastern Europe from Socialist tyranny. This brought forth prosperity and democracy. They are happier now.

Nobody "deserves" freedom. Freedom must be earned. As it happened in the US in the 18th century, and to many peoples around the world.

I see no reason why you are against helping oppressed people. Could it be that you have a sadistic streak and like to see people suffer?

Well, the US did receive help from France aganist the UK.

Let's see. Hitler occupied France. So the US should not fight Germany. Its up to the French to gain their own freedom.

Also, Napoleon conquered Portugal in 1807. The UK decided to help. But according to you, the UK should not help because the Portuguese should earn their freedom themselves.

Napoleon did not conquer Portugal. The French armies invaded Portugal three times and were three times defeated. With the help of the UK which was fighting Napoleon for its own reasons. It just happened that, at that time, the interests of the UK coincided with the interests of Portugal. Had it not been so and you may be sure that Wellington wouldn't have come to Portugal at all... But you have a Bugs Bunny idea of international relations...

Yes I know Sertorio "The common good before the individual good" - Adolf Hitler

Are we to think that Hitler and Thomas Aquinas believed the same things?...

You can work for the common good without infringing on individual rights. I don’t think Aquinas call for rulers to work for the common good to mean that individual rights can be trampled as what Marxists did.

Especially since the French under Napoleon did occupy Portugal for several months in 1807-1808, with its leaders fleeing across the ocean. But thanks to the help of your British allies, they couldn't hold on to it.
