This just in . . .

The military junta in Burma is beginning to feel the pressure. When asked about progress on the ongoing slaughter of unarmed innocents, it is getting antsy regarding progress on the friendly rivalry with the Thai military junta. The latter accounted for the murders of 90-100 Thai innocents in 2010, with the usual "disappearances" of numerous others.

Head junta honcho Generalissimo Min Aung Hlaing was quite defensive when asked about not yet equaling the standard set by the Thai military junta in 2010. "Look, I know my fellow tyrants in Thailand murdered more. But we're getting there."

Victory!
The Burmese generals are cracking open the champagne. They have surpassed the Thai 2010 benchmark in the number of innocents slaughtered year-to-date.

Jim, why are you so concerned with what happens in Myanmar? The killing in Yemen is a lot worse, including many children, and I don't remember you being so concerned with what happens there... Do you have any personal interest in respect of Myanmar?

Yes, we all should be concerned over the deaths of innocents in Yemen - starvation, armed conflict etc. Equally concerning are atrocities committed on civilians almost daily on the African continent - e.g. Libya and Nigeria, plus genocide of recent memory.

We have a home in Thailand, just across the river from Laos and not too far from Myanmar.

". . . ending violence, constructive dialogue" etc etc

Burmese celebrate as conference delegates retreat to be wined, dined, and entertained by dancing girls as is de rigueur at ASEAN functions.

Laos is no threat to either Thailand or your property.

As for Myanmar: is not Thailand strong enough and unified enough that the fighting in Myanmar poses no threat to it?

Thailand will not oppose what is happening in Myanmar because it is a dictatorship itself, and the military takeover has been indirectly supported by China, which Thailand is currently bending over backwards for at the moment.

The only thing the Thai junta is concerned about is Burmese migrants crossing the border to escape the violence. They're using Covid as an excuse to send them back but numbers are now skyrocketing in Thailand due to their own hi-sos spreading it around on govt sanctioned holidays.
