Dr. Anthony Fauci To Throw First Pitch For Washington Nationals' Season Opener

"Dr. Fauci has been a true champion for our country during the Covid-19 pandemic and throughout his distinguished career, so it is only fitting that we honor him as we kick off the 2020 season and defend our World Series Championship title," the team said in a statement.

lzzrdgrrl: would you be able to explain to me why is it in your country, given that you have men of such apparent good character in public service as this man, that you also have elected high officials bereft of integrity calling the shots?
Priorities...... Tossing Out the First Pitch is much more important than irrelevant mouth noises of something as trivial as...... national policy......'>.......

You stated that in quintessimal American jargon but i think that I picked up the meaning (despite my speaking a different regional dialect of the English mother-tongue :) ).

Izz, two pet assumptions I hold firm to are:

1) governments are elected to solve problems.

2) they exist to serve the wider comminity.

Yet I get the impression that in your country they have lost sight of those two sacred goals. The game of politics is there to be played for its own sake?

Is my impression correct?

Well at least the first pitch gave Fauci a a chance to set an example about wearing masks now that he is for them instead of against them.

=lzzrdgrrl, I want to humbly thank you for that succinct confirmation of the impression I had gained.

It took me a long time, years in fact, before I recently, with reluctance, reached that conclusion. The reason I took so long to accept that this is how it is was because it went so much against everything I believe in that I refused to accept it could be true. In other words I kept on plunging back into a state of denial.

We often forget Hanlon's Razor as it appears so counter-intuitive to us. Perhaps deliberate malice seems less disturbing because rational motives can be attributed to it and corrective measures are possible, where self-destructive behaviour elicits a file 404 error.....'>.....

Hanlon's razor is an aphorism, "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity",..

And it's not going to get any better soon, folks . . .

Figures from Cuba (July 24):

Infected: 2478
Active: 44
Recovered: 2345
Dead: 87
Cases by 100,000 people: 0.58

https://covid19cubadata.github.io/#cuba

Why is it nobody ever mentions Cuba in this Covid context? Why don't people ask why the situation is so much better there? Is it because it is difficult to recognize that, contrarily to the US, Cuba has an efficient health service?

Maybe because no one believes anything the authoritarian regime in Cuba says?
