Chinese Doctors Are Using Cuban Antivirals Against Coronavirus

Cuba produces one of the most potent medicines for the treatment of immunological diseases.

The Recombinant Interferon Alpha 2B (IFNrec), an antiviral produced by the Cuban biotech industry, is being used by Chinese doctors to treat patients infected by the 2019-nCoV coronavirus, which has affected more than 28,000 people and has killed 564 patients worldwide.

Since Jan. 25, the ChangHeber Company located in Changchun city has been producing the famous Cuban antiviral, which is one of 30 medicines chosen by the National Health Commission for its potential to cure respiratory diseases.

Currently, IFNrec is applied against HIV-related infections, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, genital warts, and hepatitis types B and C. It is also effective in therapies against different types of cancer.

ChangHeber, Biotech, and Changchun Heber Biological Technology are three companies that have joined forces within the framework of Chinese-Cuban cooperation in the biotechnology sector, which has wide prospects for future economic growth.

The Asian nation battles relentlessly against the coronavirus and its resulting pneumonia. In the absence of an effective vaccine, China applies to patients a combination of state-of-the-art antivirals and products from traditional medicine.

Chinese doctors are also testing new treatments by combining Remdesivir, which is used against Ebola, Ritonavir, which is used to treat HIV/AIDS infections, and Zavesca, which is effective in breaking down certain lipids.

Cuba’s antiviral Recombinant Interferon Alpha 2B (IFNrec) is among the medicines chosen by China to treat the coronavirus, the disease that has already caused at least 1,800 deaths in that country. To date, there is still no specific vaccine.

Interestingly, Interferon has been in Cuba for 39 years; the country began the development of this protein with antiviral properties at the same time that the biotechnology industry was being invented in 1981.

In that year, you could count on one hand the number of countries of the so-called first world that were working on this set of techniques that used living organisms — or part of them — with the aim of obtaining products or modifying them to improve plants or animals, or developing biological systems for specific purposes, in particular for the improvement of human health.

(MENAFN - Newsroom Panama) Chinese authorities are using a drug developed in Cuba called Interferon Alfa 2B, which along with two other medications for patients with coronavirus.

Elvia Lau director of Pharmacy and Drugs of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), confirmed to La Prensa that the medication has a sanitary record in Panama, so there would be no problem acquiring it for confirmed cases of coronavirus in Panama.

On Tuesday, March 10 the Cuban government announced that the Chinese authorities are currently using the recombinant Interferon Alfa 2B (IFNrec) that combined with other drugs is helping to cope with the coronavirus COVID 19. According to the Cuban newspaper Granma, this medicine has had palpable results in the cure of more than 1,500 patients. Currently, the drug is produced in the Chinese-Cuban ChangHeber plant in the Chinese province of Jilin and is one of the products created by the biotechnology industry of Cuba for the treatment of viral infections caused by HIV, human papillomavirus and hepatitis types B and C. 'The medicine is one of about 30 drugs chosen by the Chinese National Health Commission to cure the respiratory condition and, according to statements on Cuban television by Dr. Luis Herrera Martínez, scientific and commercial advisor to the President of BioCubaFarma

Its selection is due to the effectiveness shown previously against viruses with similar characteristics to this , says the doctor.

No doubt some of you - starting with Milo - will deny a Cuban drug can be effective against the coronavirus, because it is to them unthinkable that Cuba could be successful when the "developed" countries are not. But if any of you - or any of your family members - happens to get the virus, maybe you should put your preconceived ideas aside and try the said drug...Who knows, you may get cured...

When it is reported by the Venezuelan government, who doesn't have running water in its hospitals, and the Communist party Let's just say I have my doubts.

My opinion also!

If Cuban medicine has come up with such a wonderful antidode then why have they not shared it with the rest of the World by now?

They have. It is also produced in China, and may have helped China decrease the number of new cases of infection. This antiviral has been in production in Cuba for many years and has been used against other viruses as well. It is the West which refuses to recognize that Cuba may be ahead of them in anything.

Sertorio, you have still not answered my question: if the Cubans have invented this wonderful new remedy for Coronavirus then why have they not shared the formula worldwide for mass production?

Why restrict it to a couple of states regarded as allies of Cuba - such as Venezuela and China?

Lies are cheap!

The formula is known and is based on interferon. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interferon]
