Looks like most governments have no objection to having Hezbollah up on the Golan raining death and destruction down on the Israelis . . .

https://pjmedia.com/spengler/israels-tr ... th-the-us/Israel often is called America’s best ally. After the first two years of the Trump Administration no-one can doubt it. Among all of America’s allies, Israel has aligned itself unambiguously and without deviation with Washington’s objectives, while our European and Japanese allies have complained, temporized, and occasionally dealt with China and Russia behind America’s back. The President’s unflinching support for the Jewish State, including the historic move of our Israel embassy to Jerusalem, is reason enough for Israel to cleave to its American alliance.

Re: Israel
And all it costs actual Americans is a few trillion dollars for wars and regional alliances with despots in Israel's neighbourhood, 10,000 Km from home! What a deal!lzzrdgrrl wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 8:37 pmhttps://pjmedia.com/spengler/israels-tr ... th-the-us/Israel often is called America’s best ally. Well, according to David, Israel was our proxy in a war with the Soviet Union. For us it was cold, for the Israeli not so much.........
https://pjmedia.com/spengler/yes-its-co ... -cold-war/The Israeli Air Force lost 102 planes during the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, most to Russian-built surface-to-air-missiles (SAMs). Russian air defenses swept the skies of the Middle East, which meant that they could sweep the European skies in a war with NATO. Added to the Warsaw Pact's massive conventional advantage in terms of tanks and troops, Russian air superiority guaranteed victory in any prospective war with NATO. That consideration launched Russia on a campaign of expansion that culminated in the December 1979 invasion of Afghanistan, and brought the world to the brink of World War III.
In 1982, Israel destroyed 82 Russian-built Syrian warplanes in Operation Mole Cricket (also known as the Bekaa Valley Turkey Shoot), with virtually no losses of its own. In 1973, six Israeli planes were lost attacking a single Syrian SAM installation. In 1982, the combination of suicide drones, look-down/shoot-down radar and AWAC control of the battlespace gave Israel a deadly advantage. Some of the technology was Israeli, but the backbone of the Israeli force was the F-15 equipped with look-down radar. That was the beginning of the end of the Cold War: if NATO controlled the skies, Russia could not hope to win a conventional war in Europe. The sclerotic Russian economy couldn't keep up with the Americans.

Re: Israel
Right before the 1982 war Dan Rather was insisting that none of the US air to air missiles would work. The Israeli pilots found that all they had to do was lock onto the Syria Fighter Jets and the Syrian pilots would bail out rather than die.lzzrdgrrl wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 8:34 pmWell, according to David, Israel was our proxy in a war with the Soviet Union. Re: Israel
This is 2018, not 1982. And we may soon find out - thanks to the S-300 in Syria - whether Israel (and the US) have the means to defeat Russian equipment and Russia itself. Relying on the 1982 superiority to fight a war in 2018 may be a deadly mistake...lzzrdgrrl wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 8:34 pmWell, according to David, Israel was our proxy in a war with the Soviet Union. Re: Israel
The Russian brass would wish that it were still 1982. The U.S. has put an order of magnitude more money into military R&D than Russia has, going back to the Reagan administration.Sertorio wrote: ↑Thu Nov 22, 2018 2:21 amThis is 2018, not 1982.
