Singaporeans got LKY.
When I first saw that on my screen I thought that it was shorthand for 'lucky'.

(LKY = LuCkY. So Singaporeans got LuCkY  )

 Well, you may see the two meanings as one and the same? ;) :)
Funny that some people - like Cass - condemn Putin for being a "dictator" and praise LKY for being a "dictator"...
I don't praise LKY for being a dictator. I praised him from being smart and thus successful. Besides, he was not as bad a dictator as Putin. LKY killed no one while Putin is known as Putin the Poisoner. LKY wanted to expand our standard of living while Putin wants to expand the Russian empire. LKY enjoyed the respect of most of the world while Putin suffers the opprobrium of most of the world.

No. Putin is hated by the US and some western countries because he is hindering the West's imperial ventures. Thanks to him and to Russia the predators will be defeated. And that's good...

He is hindering Western ambitions because he's a competing predator.

For the sake of the argument, let's accept that Russia has some ambitions in respect of part of the Ukraine, and is willing to accept a future reunion of Abkhazia and South Ossetia with the Russian Federation. That's pretty modest for a "predator". But then look at the US and its policies in respect of North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, US illegal military presence in Syria, the widespread use of economic sanctions to force some countries to yeld to US ambitions, the support for the Yemeni massacre, and you must recognize that American predatory actions are a lot worse than anything Russia has done. If Putin succeeds in thwarting any of said US predatory actions, he will have greatly contributed to a more peaceful world.

Americans aspire to spread freedom and democracy as what Washington wrested from the British.
Washington was certainly a seminal figure in American history, but is far overrated as a defender of liberty, and not just because he was a slaveholder. The Iroquois referred to Washington as "Townburner" because of his atrocities during the American Revolution, and he took to the field personally to lead troops to put down the "Whisky Rebellion" revolt against oppressive taxes. He was much more like Hamilton than Jefferson, favouring a strong central government.
Washington did not live up to his ideals of liberty when he himself kept slaves. But his ideals and that of the other Founders did inspire a nation and that is good for the world. He was certainly a better figure for imitation than say Mohammed whose inspiration was defining the highest good as the triumph of Islam over the infidels.
