Re the Kurds, What are they waiting for - declare independence, go for it already. The time is ripe.
You seem to have some nous in Middle East affairs dagbay. Do you really believe that the Kurds can get away with such a declaration without inviting a massive Turkish invasion?

Since Turkey is home to the most Kurds and potentially the loser of the most territory to an independent Kurdistan, it would have the biggest reason to be violently opposed to Kurdish independence and (I imagine) inclined to intervene militarily even if independence were restricted to Kurdish Iraq and Syria.

Try to imagine a totally landlocked state completely surrounded by hostile neighbours like Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria. Who would be its allies? Who would want to support it?

The speaker was Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of a Founder of HAMAS!

He was arrested for terrorism by the Israelis. In jail, he was forced to co-operate with the Israelis to save his father's life. Then one day, he met a group of Christians who invited him to study the Bible.

He agreed and his life changed. Mosab discovered the Christian God. In the mosque, he heard nothing but hate, hate and hate. The Christian God thought him to love instead. Jesus taught him to love their enemies while Allah taught him to slaughter them. Eventually, he became a Christian.

From then on, he helped the Israelis willingly. His father and his HAMAS pals planned terrorist attacks. Mosab, his son, warned the Israelis and saved lives. The Israelis kept his father alive because of him. All the other HAMAS founders were killed. But leading a double life took a toll on Mosab. He wanted out and went to America on a tourist visa.

He overstayed and asked for asylum. The US immigration was suspicious of him, a son of a Founder of the terrorist group. They did not believe his story. His handler in Mossad saved the day for him or he would be deported back to Palestine. Against his orders, his handler flew to the US to testify for Mosab in court. He was allowed to stay.

Then he called his dad and told him that he has become a Christian. His father went into a state of shock and later depression. He disowned his son. Eventually, he found out that his son was tipping off the Israelis every one of his terrorist plots. He called for his son to be put to death.

Read the book, "Son of HAMAS."
