Peru: country is heading for poverty and dictatorship

Post by cassowary » Wed Jun 09, 2021 1:53 pm

Leninist appear ahead in Presidential election

Watch this space.

As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow morning, Peru is heading for poverty and dictatorship if Leninist Castillo wins the Presidency. He has a slight lead amidst fraud accusations.

Sertorio, do you want to make a bet?

Side issue: why do Latinos like Socialism?

CASSOWARY: Unless I am badly misinformed most Peruvians are living in poverty NOW and have been doing so for at least the past 500 years.

So if dictatorship is now added to their woes what difference will it make?

Plenty. More people will die than under the present democratic system.

Pol pot killed 1/3 of the population. Stalin and Mao killed tens of millions.

And poverty will get worse. It is only under capitalism that they have a chance to climb out of their poverty. Now there is zero chance.

History will repeat itself.

Capitalism seems to be what they have had there for at least the past two centuries - longer if you count the merchantile, highly exploitave version of it practiced under Spanish rule. Yet the majority population seem to have made no socio-economic progress over generations because of it. Could you blame them for drawing the conclusion that capitalism's promise of gradual improvement is a false one?

Then how come it worked for us? It also worked very quickly.

Besides that, I can't think of any country that practiced Socialism like what Castillo has proposed that brought prosperity. Castro, Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin, the Kims. None of them. At least under capitalism there are plenty of success stories. Capitalism is their only chance.

I don't know much about Peru. So I have to guess. It may be culture that is makes the difference. There may be something in their culture that retards progress. Its like the Malays and Chinese in Malaysia and Indonesia. One group prospered while the other lagged behind. Why? The difference is culture. One is Islamic and I don't know of any Muslim country that is successful.

Anyone knows about Peruvian culture?

The Incas seemed to have had a richer culture than the Spaniards who destroyed them...

Your friends do the same. They just call them 'collateral damage'...

War always has collateral damage. Didn’t your friend, Stalin, do that to the Germans during WWII? But human sacrifice to the gods? That’s different.

So how can a god that demanded human sacrifice build a culture that’s better than the Christian culture that came with the Spanish?
