"Inflated' hopes and expectations in the US?

US inflation spiral compares to a stadium stampede

Philadelphia Fed reports inflation momentum at 1970’s level

Any reader who is old enough to have lived through the double digit inflation rates of the 1970's into the 1980's will immediately recognise this as not good news at all.

The only mitigating feature of this is that with the hindsight experience of having coped with and then ended the inflationary spiral of that period half a century ago governments now have (or should have) the know-how to bring the inflation to an early end. The only unanswered question is whether they have the political willpower to stay the course - since there are costs involved.
