Anglicans have celibate orders too but it is a choice.

And Rabbis must be married.

I don't see the connection between celibacy and Sainthood.
Anyone here actually believe that God gives a sh*t about what kind of sex his monkeys are having and with which monkey?

Re: The US and Europe

Apart from all that, it is difficult to get worked up re "strengthen the hand respectively of Russia and Syria in the region." So what? Let them have it. There's no problem with Arab cutthroats stewing in their own juices. Exactly, What has untold years of blood and treasure bought the US in the wo...

Re: Pope Francis and the Economy

In the old Asia Times Forums discussion venue we used to have a well liked contributor/participant who posted under the pseudonym Booklady's Ghost (remember her?) . BG was convinced that the Holy Spirit must be guiding her (and my) Church for the simple (I would think obvious) reason that those who...

"Tradition dies hard; especially in an institution as ancient as this one." (the RCC) Precisely correct, neverfail. The time-honored tradition of pedophilia practiced by clergy shows no sign of dying out. And I guess we can be comforted by the "shit happens" excuses for the behavior of said clergy ...

Re: I predict economic disaster for Mexico ...

SOME Cubans "have risked their lives on rafts made of trash in order to reach a vastly better life in the U.S." The vast majoruty of Cubans have not done so, not even tried. Those who stayed behind are by far better educated and have a better health care than people in any other Latin American coun...

Mexico was in bad shape before this new guy took over as president anyway. Give Obrador the benefit of the doubt and wait to see how he performs.
GIve Chavez a chance too, or something similar was said some years ago... worked out well for Venezula, eh?

Happy Thanksgiving (or whatever pagan festival you may be observing)

Happy Thanksgiving All! May you all enjoy being cooped up with extended family for many days of drinking, eating and lively, um, conversations! I am off to the mountains around the NC/Va border for the festivities. I do hope to get a bit of big game hunting in while there, being as it is rumored to ...

I hope we will never be in a position of finding out whether I am right or not... Aye, so do we too Sertorio Because I may be wrong... But I feel that the human species is less stupid than some of you seem to think... Les stupid, maybe. But then look at the daily atrocities happening as I type this...
