Jihadist terror strikes Teheran

Post by Alexis » Wed Jun 07, 2017 3:32 am

Iran's parliament and Khomeini mausoleum attacked by gunmen
Attackers have opened fire at the Iranian parliament and Ayatollah Khomeini's mausoleum in the capital, Tehran, causing a number of casualties.
(...)
At the mausoleum several people were injured, and at least one suicide bomber died.
The so-called Islamic State group (IS) has claimed it carried out the attacks.
Number of casualties unclear as of now.

Would be interesting to ascertain whether the perpetrators are radicalized Sunnis, or converts from Shia branch of Islam. I guess it won't be clear for some time.

Why do you seem to approve of killings of Iranian civilians?

Then I guess it's my English.

Looking up the expression "A pox on both their houses", I find as meaning "a frustrated curse on both sides of an argument".

In that case, the two sides of the argument we were speaking of are Jihadist terrorists on the one hand, Iranian victims of the Teheran attack on the other hand - knowing that most of those victims are probably civilians.

Personally, I'm with Larison on this one
These are deplorable attacks, and the U.S. should condemn them just as it would condemn terrorist attacks elsewhere.
That's the position of French diplomacy as well as German, etc.

This will help further radicalizing Iran, will bring Iran closer to Russia and Syria, will encourage Iran assisting Qatar in order to weaken Saudi Arabia. The result can only be the weakening of the US in the ME. If one forgets the victims, this will have a positive result in the struggle against US imperialism.

The two sides are the Ayatollahs and ISIS. A pox on both of those houses, indeed.

I disagree.

Iran has an illiberal regime, but it's a regular country where non-Shias can live with secure rights if unequal ones, and a country which doesn't subvert the youth of other lands to transform them into traitors and murderers of civilians.

That's quite a few differences with the so-called "caliphate".

Iran is likely the best bet to check ISIS. Hard for me to feel bad about this.
