Re: Trump has Putin over a barrel (of oil)

Would it be surprising if the Russians, having witnessed the disintegration of their centuries old empire more recently than either the British or French, did not likewise suffer from a hankering to set the clock back to those glory days of yore? The Russian empire was very different from our weste...

Re: Trump has Putin over a barrel (of oil)

I don't see how they can make money out of it. Why are they propping up a poverty-stricken dictatorship? Very expensive. My theory is that Russia likes to pretend they are still a great power, like during the old days of the USSR. It makes them feel proud and important. So instead of spending money...

I understand people and their motives very well. It is you who lack understanding.
Your posts show otherwise. You interpret other peoples actions based on your misconceptions and ideology and then think you are the holder of the "truth"... :?

Re: US Foreign Policy

. But since I feel more threatened by the US than by Russia I don't think I can agree with you... Sertorio, I don't feel threatened by either one of them! I don't even feel threatened by the Peoples Republic of China either. it is a nice sensation to live without fear. I don't actually feel fear. I...

Re: Just one word

Russia is an amazing place. It has a GDP only marginally bigger than that of Australia yet it has 144 million inhabitants to sustain with that compared to only 24 million for Australia.. In GDP size Germany, France and Great Britain all dwarf it - yet Russia still rattles countries right throughout...

Re: Just one word

Gone are their internal and external empires. Putin has managed to restore some of that lost pride by taking back the Crimea and doing nonsense in Syria. What have they to gain spending money in Syria? Nothing, I can see. Empire are supposed to enrich you and not poorer. But his actions in Syria ma...

Re: US Foreign Policy

I'm saying you have to lie to make Russia look good, but you don't have to lie to make the West look bad. In other words, in your opinion Russia always does the wrong thing and the West does it very often... Since no one is always wrong, I would say that there isn't, taking your phrase at face valu...

Re: US Foreign Policy

Envoy Kushner http://nationalinterest.org/feature/dont-ignore-kushners-quiet-mideast-gains-24256 No big deal. He (and Greenblatt) are bound to appear successful, considering the previous administrations envoys labored under. Ahmed Charai, the writer of that piece, is a Moroccan, possibly a Berber, ...

Re: US Foreign Policy

Honestly? When they talk about Russia, it's total rubbish. But when they stick to talking specifically about Western hypocrisy, I'm more inclined to believe them, because it's not like Western policymakers don't give them enough ammunition on a regular basis. How do you know that "When they talk ab...

I am a non-ideological academic.
Come on, no one here is non-ideological, and you're certainly not the exception.
I am definitely non-ideological. Which doesn't mean that I do not subscribe to a number of basic principles, such as those expressed in the Declaration of Human Rights.
