Re: Trump has Putin over a barrel (of oil)

On the one hand, Sertorio is quite right that the U.S. acts in aggressive ways that would get any other country branded as a rogue state. On the other, his irrational belief that Russia and China are meaningfully different in any way other than inferior ability to project power is baffling. You for...

Re: Iran

TBH, I'd expect the regime to moderate before it came to being overthrown. But youth unemployment is a serious problem, so I wouldn't say anything's impossible.

Arctic sea routes could ease Malacca Strait security issue http://www.atimes.com/article/arctic-sea-routes-ease-malacca-strait-security-issue/ Yes, it could also rob Singapore of a certain amount of business. Singapore, do not forget, is a major global oil marketing and refining centre. But still, ...

Re: Russia meddled in U.S. election: George W. Bush

Of course there is the fact that all of the US intelligence agencies agree that the Russians interfered in the 2016 election. The same ones that insisted there were WMDs in Iraq? All the more reason to believe them now. They would not want to suffer the embarrassment of getting it wrong twice. And ...

Re: Trump Wants Military Parade

I wish we could teleport the US to one of the moons of Saturn... :D You could have wished only to teleport U.S. policymakers and their partners in the military-industrial complex. But then that wouldn't have been anti-American enough for you. The US is a democracy. Policymakers were elected, and th...

Re: The Syria War

Syria is a secular, multi-ethnic and multi-religious state, and it should remain so. Russia and Iran, together, are the best chance for Syria to be an open society. Given that neither Russia nor Iran are open societies, that would seem a rather unlikely outcome of their patronage. Russia is a great...

Re: Nancy Pelosi trumps Fidel Castro as history's most irrepressible windbag..?

Could either of you good men enlighten me on this? I thought that Trump was keen to deport over 1 million undocumented illegals back to El Salvador and a few weeks later he wants to give all of their "dreamer" offspring permanent residence in the US. Why this apparent policy backflip? Because Trump...
